Career Advice for the Undeclared Major

Part of the reason that we go to college is to learn how the real world works and operates. This means that one day, if it hasn't happened already, you are going to wake up and realize that you have to choose which profession to pursue. Typically this happens when people choose their major, due to the commonly held belief that a person's major is going to determine how well someone is going to succeed in their chosen avocation. Since this can be a fairly overwhelming task for many people they are typically going to try and put off making their final decision for as long as possible.

Happily, there is a vocational choice that has limitless possibilities, regardless of whether you have a major in art theory or business administration. That option in goals is to become the next Global Despot. To become the next Global Despot, you just need to have a little ambition, and a desire to do what is needed. Just use these simple suggestions, and you are going to be on your way to running the world.

1. Decide. In order to gain control of the world you are going to need to decide what method y oar going to use. There are numerous methods that you can use, but they can all be boiled down to one of two basic options, direct or indirect control.
2. Implement. If you chose to use direct control then you need to gain control through political or military means. The greatest way to gain control is through the combined use of religious, political and military power. By starting your own religious movement and gaining followers in the political and military establishment you gain influence over all aspects of a society. Just have your followers either elect you into office or place you into office by force. Some suggested reading for this method would be Frank Herbert's Dune, Robert A. Heinlein's Stranger in a Strange Land and Revolt in 2100. The best possible method to gain control over a country is to be the power behind the curtains. Gain friends in positions of power and have them implement your policies and thereby make you untouchable relatively untouchable if things go wrong. This method allows you to be able to use another as a "scapegoat" as long as you keep your self in the back ground. A wonderful historical example of how NOT to act would be Grigori Yefimovich Rasputin, also known as the "Mad Monk," who prior to the Russian Revolution pretty much ran the country. The problem that Rasputin ran into, was his excesses, which became known and resented among the population.
3. Maintain. Once you have attained your power base, you need to maintain it. There are several ways that you can do this. You could promote a Utopian society that no one ever wishes to overthrow, or one that would make the Evil Emperor cringe.
